Pencil Sketch gives fine grey gradients built from cross-hatching, which suits portraits and detail. Charcoal goes much darker with strong contrast and bolder blocks of tone, which suits photos with dramatic light and shadow. AI Photo to Sketch handles portraits, pets and architecture equally well.
Why does AI Photo to Sketch not look like a grey filter?
Because the model redraws the strokes: hatching follows the form, pressure varies, paper grain and charcoal smudges are drawn in. Zoomed in you can see stroke structure rather than a flat grey mask. A sharp source photo gives AI Photo to Sketch cleaner line work.
